Wallasey Athletic Club send three teams to Warrington today for the annual relays held in Victoria Park. In a four-man team each runner completes a 1-mile lap of grassland before handing over, and the club have one team entered in the, youths' race and two teams in the boys' event.
Dave Lockley once again spearheads the attack on the boys' title, with Johnny Jones, Steve Walker and Paul Barrie in support, whilst the 'B' quartet will consist of Melvin Schless, Philip Wealthy, Les Watcham and Dave Adair.
The youths' foursome is expected to be Ken Roscoe, Mike McNamee, Mike Whiteside and David Jackson, and it is expected that whilst the youths' team may hold last year's position (15th), the boys are expected to improve considerably on their 11th place.
Despite a cold and blustery evening there was a good turn out at club H.Q. last Tuesday evening for the first sprint training session of 1966, and it is hoped that those who missed this week's start will take advantage of the first track turn-out on Monday next at 7 p.m. at Lingham Park, Moreton.
With the County Championship only 1 month away, time is running out for those who have yet to start their summer work and an early start is advised.
Next Saturday the club visit Sale for the last road relay race before the track season and the club have teams entered in the under 15, under 16 and under 18 age group races. There are three runners to a team, each covering 1.4 miles of road and having finished in 2nd place last year the club hope to bring home winning medals this year.
