Due to absences caused mainly by holidays, only a small party of athletes from Wallasey competed in the inter-club meeting at Gately on Saturday.
Northern junior champion, Pete Lewis, confirmed his recent good form with a fine win from more experienced senior athletes in the 440 yards.
Pete's time of 51.4 secs, which converts to 51.1 secs. for 400 metres was only 0.2 secs, outside his personal best.
Mike Weatherilt, a student at Liverpool University, who is returning to racing after a lay off recorded his best time of the year for the mile with 4 mins. 43 secs.
In the half-mile Barry Smith ran a personal best time of 1 mins. 57.1 secs. and finished second by a matter of inches to Mike Bateman of Manchester A.C. who was given the same time as Barry.
Bob Warburton and Ian Wilson came 4th and 5th in this race, both recording the same time of 2 mins. 1 secs. and this was a personal best for both athletes for this year.
This weekend Wallasey athletes travel to Stretford for what promises to be a high-class meeting, while a small group of athletes go to Crystal Palace, London for the A.A.A. junior and youth championships.
