It was the turn of Wallasey Athletic Club's Boys' team to grab the honours in an inter-club race over two miles last Saturday at Warrington.
Gary Fair, led the team in third place, in 11 mins. 46 secs., followed by Bob Warburton, running well to finish 6th in 12 mins. 16 secs. In the girls' race, Bob Brimage's sister, Sylvia annihilated the rest of the field in a 1½ mile race, winning by almost 200 yards and looking as though she could have run the race again.
In a field of 70 starters, Dave Lockley did extremely well to finish 3rd, beating some good class runners, had he run as well a couple of weeks earlier, he would have made the county team.
Next in for Wallasey was Barrie Smith in 13th place, and then the fast improving Alan Keating in 22nd place. In this performance he showed signs of a welcome return to form, for Alan, who was out of the sport for almost a year until a few months ago.
Five places and twenty seven Teahan, not fully at home on heavy muddy 6 miles course.
Phil Wealthy, recovering from a cold, did well to finish 35th.
Doug Hanna, short of distance running training, donned his running shoe so that Wallasey could finish a team, and did exceptionally well to take 48th place. Wallasey A.C. next visit Blackpool to compete in the West Lancs. Cross-Country Championships.
