With many athletes on holiday only a small Wallasey Athletic Club party travelled to the third Stretford League meeting. Those who did, however, were rewarded with some good times.
The large 800 metres entry caused the field to be split into three races, with one Wallasey, runner in each.
In cool windy conditions they all ran with credit; Peter Lewis was second in the first race to John Gerard (Leigh Harriers) in 1 min. 54.1 secs., for the two-lap event.
Barrie Smith then proceeded to run his fastest race of the season, finishing in
1 min. 58.1. secs., and Bob Warburton produced his best run for some weeks, being credited with 1 min. 59.9 secs., a good time for Bob who is still only a junior.,
In the 3,000 metre event Dave Lockley took fourth place, running at his best and finishing only seconds outside his best time for the distance in 8 min. 37 secs., and Mike Teahan, now running nearer his true form, finished in 9 min. 54 secs.
