Wallasey Athletic Club, members took part in some unusual and out-of-season events at R.A.F. Cosford Indoor Athletics Arena, where an open meeting took place on Saturday.
Mike Teahan and Des Lyons had a go at the 50 metre sprint, Mike recording a creditable 6.9 secs. and Des 7.1 secs. after a slow start. Mike also ran the 300 metres finishing strongly to come third in 40.1 secs. Dave Ashton came fourth in his junior 300 metres, in a time of 49 secs.
Phil Wealthy came fourth in the 600 metres with a time of 88.4 secs. Margaret Ashcroft was the only woman competing and she achieved a personal best in the 1,500 metres with a time of 4 mins. 49 secs., and was close on the heels of internationals Jean Lochead and Noreen Braithwaite in fourth position. Pete Lewis ran in the men's 1,500 metres and also managed a personal best of 3 mins. 55 secs. Dave LockIey and Bob Brimage took part in the longest race of the day - the 3,000 metres, which had a huge entry. Dave ran a personal best in the 'A' race of 8 mins. 34.1 secs., coming 10th, while Bob Brimage's time of 9 mins. 3 secs. in the 'C' race brought him in 11th.
Today, the men's section will have a team in the 6x3 miles relay in Sefton Park. The women's section have their county championships - most members will be at the Cheshire Championships in Arrowe Park, and Janice Watts will be in the Lancashire equivalent at Oldham.
