Chris Preston turned in a star performance for Wallasey Athletic Club when he won the hammer event at the Cheshire Schools Championships at Northwich on Saturday. Wallasey was well represented at the event, the last because of the boundary charges.
Javelin thrower Ricky Fisher was troubled by the strong wind and was unlucky to have three no throws recorded against him.
Mike Tunstall and Chris Wright qualified for the 1500 metre events and the latter ran well to finish third. The fastest 400 metre time was in the senior event by Wallasey's Dave Ashton, but he could only manage third in the final with 55.3 seconds.
Julie Halfpenny was fourth in the girls' 400 metres thanks to a time of 69.5 secs. and in the heat of the intermediate boys' 400 metres John Lane and Joseph Jones returned times of 58.3 secs. and 59.4 sec. respectively.
Good race tactics are a part of the increasing success story of Roly Murtagh who was second in the final of the 800 metres.
Tomorrow Wallasey A.C contributes to the Wallasey Festival of Sport with a senior men's road race and a relay race for women.
