Tomorrow sees the second of the 'open' indoor meeting being held at R.A.F. Cosford.
The four Wallasey Athletic Club members who competed in the first meet recorded personal bests or very close to personal best performances and will hardly be content with anything less than indoor PB tomorrow.
Kevin McGee and Rob Heap compete in the 3,000 metre event and Pete Jones in the 800-metre event, whilst Chris Preston will be hoping, to improve yet again his shot performance. Each of these athletes are working rewards next month's indoor championships and next season's track championships.
Last Saturday's Wirral School's cross-country event suffered the same fate as many other outdoor sports. They were postponed until Saturday, December 16, same venue, same time. It was unfortunate that competitors, officials and parents did not know, until they arrived at Pensby School, of the cancellation, but this was unavoidable due to the 10 am start and the overnight snow.
Tuesday, December 12, is an important date for all club members. Their presence is required, at the St. George's School gymnasium for an information meeting. It is in the interests of all members, especially active ones, to be in attendance.
Track athletes are reminded of the importance of getting some winter stamina work in. We have stiffer competition in next season's league and we have entered the men's section in the GRE Cup (the old Pye Gold Cup).
Lastly, don't forget the club's Christmas Handicap on Saturday next, December 16, 3 p.m. start, from the Scout Hut, Twickenham Drive.
