Three out of three - that is the outstanding record so far achieved by Wallasey Athletic Club's youth team. The third and last of the series of Liverpool & District Leagues provided the competition, this time in Wigan. Three different courses gave three different tests, each one taken successfully and passed with honours.
For the first time, Wallasey also finished a colts' team. All its members ran well to give us a fourth team place. The D'Arcy brothers ran extremely well to finish 7th, Phil, and 14th, Steve.
Full results of these races will be found at the end of the report.
Last Sunday was the day when the Wallasey clubs ladies section had a chance to show their abilities. The occasion was the third Merseyside County Women's AAA Cross-Country Championships which were staged at Arrowe Park.
The club had teams entered in both the junior girls race and Senior Ladies races. Oona Norris ran a superb race to finish second for Wallasey, the rest of the team being made up of Lynn Jenkinson, Joanne Macdonald and Loliya Harrison.
Carole Jenkinson also ran but obviously had an 'off' day.
The senior team also ran extremely well, led home by Barbara Majumdar, who finished second Sue Lloyd and Julie Halfpenny, returned home from university to make up the team completed by Anne Brimage the ladies captain. Both these teams finished second. The weekend before saw two of the youths competing for Merseyside in the inter-league match. Kevin McGee and Rick Hemmings helped the Merseyside team to finish third, only two points dividing the first team from the third.
Two track men visited R.A.F. Cosford to run in the first indoor meeting of the season. Between them, they brought back two personal bests and a club record. Pete Jones and Phil Ashley are both looking forward to bettering their times again.
