March also saw heartbreak for Liverpool Harriers, with victory in their grasp, Liverpool's last leg runner inadvertently went the wrong way gifting the title to Leeds. Fresh off the back of a 5km personal best in Armagh, Cliffe again produced a lighting leg, running the fastest stage of the day for the Wavertree based club.
Over 1,800 runners descended on Port Sunlight for the 5km and 10km events organised by BTR Liverpool in March, kick starting a fantastic year of events for the local race organising team.
Kirsty Longley (Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton), who had a year to remember dominating the local road scene took the honours in the women's 10km with Wallasey's Joseph Bowden coming out on top in the men's race.
The following month saw the return of the Vitality Liverpool Half Marathon, the second installment of the year from BTR.
The event had a real international flavour with participants travelling from 15 overseas countries joining runners from across the region with Denmark's Michelle Poulsen winning the women's event in 1:21:04, setting a new course record in the process despite the challenging conditions. More than 5,000 runners took to the streets for the showpiece event.
In May, sprint star Anyika Onoura was selected for Great Britain to compete in the IAAF World Relays in Bahamas. The Liverpool Harrier ran a superb second leg helping the British team to bronze on the Caribbean island.
Liverpool Harriers' Jonny Mellor completed his successful comeback from illness over the winter season with victory in the British 10,000m Championships at Highgate. Mellor would later add bronze in the 5,000m before ending his track season early to focus on running a debut Autumn marathon.
Proving to be a successful month for local athletes Webb continued his fine form winning the British Universities Championships in Bedford, before running 1:47.33 in Oordegem, Belgium to secure a qualifying time for the summers European u23's Championships held in Tallinn, Estonia.
The 21-year old went on to finish second at the u23's English Championships in June, inside the automatic qualifying position to secure his first Great Britain call up for the Championships later in the summer.
