Wallasey A.C. gained their first success of the season, last Saturday, at Leigh when J. Edwards, the Liverpool & District Cross-Country champion, finished 3rd in the open mile.
His performance was particularly good, for out of a field of some forty runners only C. Kelly, Liverpool Pembroke, find E. Gallagher, Liverpool Harriers, both of whom have been hitting the high spots in middle distance running during the war, could finish in front of him. Wallasey A.C. are lying third In both the District Field Events League and the Track League, and are not many points behind the leaders in either case. The big difficulty is lack of senior members. Wallasey A.C. would welcome a chance to coach and train any potential javelin throwers, shot putters, long jumpers or whatever event takes their fancy. The Wallasey Grammar School are holding their annual Sports on Saturday, June 15th, and judging by performances, in the Northern Public Schools Championships some really good running is to be expected and several records broken. The revival of the School v. Old Boys athletic match takes place on the evening of June 27th, and any Old Boy who can turn out, or in any way assist should get in touch with John Edwards, 6 Ferndale Avenue. June 15th brings Manchester A.C.'s mammoth meeting at Fallowfield. This year the N.C.A.A. 6-mile championship and the Stalin short limit invitation mile are on the programme. Enquiries should be addressed to B. Kivlin, 32 Clarendon Road.
