A field of 27 runners took part in Wallasey Athletic Club's Christmas Handicap over 5 miles in perfect conditions at Leasowe Road on Christmas Eve.
Bob Johnston, who is reserve for the county team, started off scratch and came through most of the field to finish fourth, achieving the fastest time of 28 mins. 50 secs. Second and third fastest were Arnold Dinsdale (29 mins. 06 secs.) and Eric Foster (29 mins. 55 secs.).
The winner of the race was Bob's younger brother Jim, off five minutes, with Arthur Oulsnam second and Dinsdale third. Prizes for the runners were presented by the club president Mr. A. G. Nicholson, who expressed the club's best wishes to Jim Richardson, a pre-war stalwart who emigrates to New Zealand this week.
This Saturday afternoon W.A.C. entertain Waterloo Harriers and Sefton Harriers in a triangular fixture at Leasowe.
