For Wallasey the outstanding feature of the Liverpool & District Cross-Country Championships held at Wirral A.C. headquarters, Prenton, was Bob Johnson's magnificent performance in winning comfortably the junior event. He easily outclassed the second and third men, who were nearly two hundred yards behind d at the finish.
The youths' team were, unfortunately, disappointed in their race, being beaten into 4th place by Liverpool Boundary Harriers 77 points, Liverpool Pembroke 87 points, and Liverpool Harriers 99 points.
Individual placings were: - 5th D. Anderson, 12th K. Ledward, 14th E. Maddock, 16th H. Foot, 34th J. Lynch and 42nd W. Morris. The senior event produced no unexpected result, save that of a fine performance by a newcomer to the club, Peter Milner, who finished first for Wallasey in 22nd place. A. Dinsdale did not run to form due to sickness, but still managed to finish third counting man in 33rd place. Others were D. Dickinson 29th,, A. Dickinson 34th, J. Arkless 87th and E. C. Foster 40th. This gave Wallasey a total of 195 points and 5th position. The champions are Wirral Athletic Club; 2nd, Liverpool Pembroke and 3rd Liverpool Harriers. J. F. Green of Wirral AC. was the individual winner.
This week the club are the guests of Liverpool Pembroke at Court Hey. Members are asked to meet at the Pier Head at 2 o'clock. The following week the club are organising the West Lancashire Championship out at Moreton. All members who are available on that day and have not been chosen to run are asked to contact the Secretary so that he may be able to judge how many members he can call on to act as officials and course stewards.
