SAAB Salomon Hellrunner
Five head out to the country
It was described as a challenging scenic 10 mile road race along country lanes.
The word 'along' should have been replaced by 'up and down'. First in for the
club was Richard Saunders ( 52nd ) 69:28, followed by Pete McArdle ( 80th )
72:58, then Les Pullin ( 112th )in a time of 75:34. Due to recent illness Anne Taylor-Kilbane was unable to
complete the course but gave it a good go before retiring at around the half way
mark. Gill Pullin flew the flag for Wallasey cheering us on at the 3 mile point.
She was later joined near to the finish by Anne and they both helped to make the
last few yards enjoyable. When we got back to the car, ham sandwiches, tea, hot
chocolate and muffins were served. Many thanks to our driver for the day,
Richard, to Gill and Anne for their support and providing the refreshments and
to Les who had the idea of running a 10 mile race in November, which gave me the
opportunity to meet up with old friends from Stone Master Marathoners, the club
who organised the event. Next year Les, I will settle for the picnic!
