It is with great sadness that we
report the death of Les Pullin who passed away peacefully this week
after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Les represented Wallasey AC many times right up in to his sixties
when he could be seen pulling on the red vest for the club at
Borders League, multi terrain and cross country races.
Les worked hard to achieve his ambition of running a sub 3 hour
marathon. He would run 20 miles on a Saturday in 2 hours 10 minutes
and then a do another 20 mile run on the Sunday in 2 hours 20
minutes. This type of dedication helped him achieve this ambition
several times in the eighties.
Many of the club's members will
remember Les and his wife Gill opening up their house for runners to
meet prior to a Saturday speed session and welcome them back for
refreshments after training.
Les and Gill also started the
tradition of laying on a buffet after Borders League races and their
generosity greatly assisted in building the camaraderie at the club.
I'm sure we will all have lots of
happy memories of spending time with Les, he will be greatly missed
by all of us and our condolences go to his family and friends.
He was a true gentleman.
