Final Border League Round 2006-2007 Preview |
Both ladies' and men's club captains issues rallying calls prior the last Borders League round at Wrexham on Friday 4th May 2007 and for differing reasons. The ladies have a chance of promotion to the first division, if they can make up the 23 point deficit on Deestriders. Team captain Louise Merivale said 'We hope to have 14 runners out for the last race', if this is the case they have a good chance of making up the ground. The task for the men is more difficult, more than 200 points need to be gained on the teams above them to avoid relegation after one season in the top flight. It is hoped that as many members as possible attend if not to run, then to support the team. Runners should attempt to close on the rival club runners in front of them, Deestriders (green shirts), Eryri (green shirts) and Prestatyn (red shirts). Men's team captain Dave Walton said "The race on Friday brings an end to the Borders league season for another year. All the Wallasey Athletes have done the club proud during our centenary year. We have had in excess of 20 runners at all 6 races and the spirit and atmosphere has been second to none. Unfortunately we find ourselves in relegation position in the top division but we have put in a sterling performance throughout the year and have certainly raised the profile and reputation of the club. Let's get as many runners as possible racing on Friday and ensure we have another enjoyable and successful night. Thanks for all your support during the year". The race which starts at 19:00 is followed by a the presentation, refreshments and a buffet. |
