Athletic Club member breaks a 3-mile hill course record
Members of Wallasey Athletic Club went to Denbighshire last Sunday to compete over the 3-mile hill course at Foel Glap. Brian Woolford broke the course record in a time of 14:58, and Dave Lockley completed the course in a personal-best time of 15 mins. 19 secs.

Ron Barlow, Wallasey Athletic Club's foremost runner did well in the two-mile team race at Stretford, Manchester, on Saturday. He was the first of the club's runners home in 11th position.

Four members of Wallasey Athletic Club ran in the 6th annual Chris Vose 7-rnile road race at Warrington last Saturday. The event has been won every year by Ron Hill, and this year was no exception.

18 teams start only 14 finish
Four teams out of the 18 which took part in Sefton Park Road Relay on Saturday, failed to finish. The two teams from Wallasey Athletic Club not only completed the course, but produced some remarkably good times between them.

Athletic club 7th in cross country
In last Saturday's league run at Woolton, in which 89 runners started, the senior event was won by Leo Carroll of Wirral A.C. who covered the 61/2 miles cross-country in 36 mins. 7 secs. Wirral .A.C. won the team event with a score of only 87 points, Wigan coming second with 105 points and Liverpool third with 117 points.

Levy of 10s. on all athletes - County youth relay declared void
By a majority of 164 to 140, the bankruptcy of athletes was temporarily averted by the decision of the Amateur Athletic Association's general meeting in London last Saturday: a 10s. levy is to be imposed upon all athletes of 17 years and over, who wish to compete in open competition.

The thirteenth annual Waterloo Schools Road Races sponsored, by the 'Daily Post' were held in perfect, but cold, conditions. Wallasey athletes competed on behalf of Wallasey Grammar School.

Running in her first county cross-country championship, 14-year-old Pat Robertson, a pupil at Oldershaw Grammar School, brought distinction to herself and the Wallasey Athletic Club by leading the field of 26 runners home at Winnington Park, Northwich last Saturday.

Last Saturday, Wallasey A.C. held its 60th annual cross-country championships. There were to have been five races but there were insufficient competitors to warrant this, in fact there were only two races.

Woolford in county team
Last Saturday the Cheshire County Cross Country championships were held at Arrowe Park under very wet and muddy conditions. The senior race was won by H. Phipps of Sale Harriers, the team trophy going to Wirral A.C. who had a total of 66 points, Altrincham were second with 89 and Sale third with 100.

Last Saturday, Wallasey Athletic Club took part in the Liverpool & District Cross Country Championships at St. Helens. In the youths’ 3-mile race Wallasey took the bronze medals with a total of 116 points.

Running in his 1500 metres steeplechase at Warrington last Saturday, Wallasey Athletic Club’s Dave Lockley pulled of a great win over Rochdale’s British record holder, Colin Adshead, when he turned in a 4 mins. 31.6 secs. with Adshead 7 seconds behind in 4:38.5 and Snow (Liverpool) 3rd in 4:48.3.

Wallasey’s Johnny Jones, pulled out all the stops in the junior final of the Cheshire mile at the County athletic championships held at Lingham Track last Saturday, when before a good crowd, he put in a fighting finish to snatch the gold medal in a personal-best performance of 4 mins. 34 secs.

Personal records for Kin and Wilson in AAA’s championships
Despite being drawn in the outside lane and having to clear hurdles that were three inches higher than he had been practicing over (due to a last minute change in the championship rules, which brought them to the international height of three feet) Wallasey’s Alan Kin still managed to qualify for the final of the 440 yards hurdles in the A.A.A.’s junior and youth championships at Kirkby last weekend.
