Lockley and Smith run faster than ever
David Lockley and Barrie Smith of Wallasey Athletic Club, both ran six seconds faster than ever before in a two-mile race at Kirkby last Tuesday. In a field of 21 runners Barrie finished 5th in 9 minutes 31 seconds and David came in only a couple of places back in 9 m 35s.

Wallasey Athletic Club’s return visit to Leeds for the Aaron youths' and boys' cross-country races last Saturday was a qualified success, with the youths taking 4th team place in a field of over 140 runners.

Barbara just lost to the champ.
On Saturday, Barbara Banks proved that the improvement in her track times this summer was only an indication of better things to come. After leading for most of the ladies Cheshire cross-country championships she was only narrowly beaten on the run in by the reigning Ladies' Northern Champion, Jane Perry of Wirral A.C.

On Saturday Wallasey A.C. took part in the Sale Harriers’ Easter Road relays. Thanks to a fast time by Johnny Jones they came 4th in the senior event. The races all 3 x 11/4 miles, were for the four age groups, under 14’s, under 15’s, under 16's and under 18's.

Athlete’s big part in league’s big triumph
It wasn't the best of days for running, last Saturday, hot and dry and with an appreciable wind blowing up the home straight of Blackburn’s Witton Park track, where a triangular match was staged between the Merseyside, North East Lancs. and Bolton Leagues.
