The 10th annual Chris Voss Road Race attracted eight Wallasey Athletic club members. The warm conditions slowed all the runners down the race being won in 34 mins. 30 secs. by Alan Birks (City of Stoke A.C.), from the English Cross Country Champion, Trevor Wright of Hallamshire A.C.

In the fifth annual Bolton Road Relays, Wallasey Athletic Clubs senior women’s team were just beaten into second place by Northern champions Bury and Radcliffe A.C. after leading until the final leg.

Fine handicap win for Lyn Carter
In Wallasey Athletic Club's sealed handicap, youth came out on top, young Lynn Carter winning by a mere eight seconds from Lindsay Hewson and Neil Simpson. As usual the handlcappers did a good job, the first seven handicap times being within-half a minute of one another.

Wallasey athletes get stuck in the mud
Wallasey Athletic Club competed with little success in both the Women’s and Men's Northern Cross-Country Championships at Sheffield and Blackburn, respectively. Best placing was by Janice Watts who finished 5th in the senior women's event.

A dismal note to end the season
Wallasey Athletic Club men's section ended the cross country season on a rather dismal note. The team pool of twelve runners all of whom were present in the second league run were reduced, by injuries, illness and unfitness to four for the final Liverpool and District League Meeting, held at St. Helens.

Best time for Andy Fulton
In a day of mixed results for Wallasey Athletic Club members, Andy Fulton recorded a personal best in winning the high jump with 5 ft 1 inch, not content with this Andy also won the javelin with a throw of over 40 metres and took runners up position in the shot competition.

In the Cheshire Women's League meeting at Sale, Wallasey Athletic Club finished fourth. Highlight of the afternoon was the performance of Kathy Davenport who broke one of the club's oldest standing records in the long jump, winning the event with a jump of 18ft. 3ins.

Blackburn Harriers became the new holders of the Liverpool Post and Echo Trophy, defeating Sutton Harriers in the New Brighton road relays. In the youth road race the Wallasey Athletic Club team took runners-up position to Liverpool Pembroke A.C.

On a day which made top performances impossible, several of the Wallasey Athletic Club's women's team overcame the weather to produce some very praiseworthy performances. As a result the team gained fourth place in the second Cheshire League meeting at Warrington.

Relay records smashed
Wallasey Athletic Club relay teams have recorded two new club records. The 400 metre relay team of Pete Lewis, Ian Wilson, Doug Hanna and Phil Wealthy recorded 3 min. 28.9 secs. in finishing second in the Lancashire Constabulary Sports, and the 100 metre relay team of Alan Cheers, Geoff Davies, Mike Teahan and Phil Wealthy recorded 46.8 sec. In finishing third in a Northern League meeting.

At the Northern League meeting at Blackpool, Wallasey Athletic Club men's team produced their worst performance of the season finishing last of the six teams competing. Only success of the afternoon was Alan Cheers who recaptured his form in completing a fine double winning the long and triple jumps.
