Wallasey A.C. and England long jumper Len Platt has been selected to represent Cheshire in the Inter-Counties championships to be held at the White City Stadium, London on Whit Saturday and Monday.
Len is due for a busy weekend, as in addition to the long jump he has also been chosen for the high jump and 100 yards sprint.
His best chance is of course in the long jump event, which he won in these championships last year, and he can be expected to make a big effort to retain his title.
The fact that he has also been selected as Cheshire's representative in the high jump and 100 yards is a tribute to the versatility of this fine athlete and he can be relied upon to acquit himself creditably in these events also.
An indication of his all round ability is given by his performances last summer when in addition to long jumping for England on several occasions he also at various times reached national standard in the hop, step, and jump, 'evens' in the 100 yards, 6ft. 1in. in the high jump, and just for good measure turned in a 54 second quarter in the club quarter mile championship.
Two other Wallasey A.C. members have been chosen as Cheshire reserves in their events, these being, Carl Gee in the discus and Don Anderson in the half mile. Applications for membership will be welcomed by general sec. Carl Gee, 78 King Street (Tel. 5129) or in the case of the women's section, either sec. Jean Massey, 200 Seaview Road (Tel. 6455) or captain Margaret Collings, 60 Withens Lane (Tel. 2864).
Entry forms for the Cheshire County championships to be held at Helsby, on June 6, can be obtained from Mr. R. Hubbard, 44 Tollemache St., New Brighton.
