Wallasey's stars at the West Lancs. Championships at Court Hey last week were Ron Barlow and Roy Shaw. Both finished 2nd in their races and Roy's performance especially must have caused surprise.
The boys finished 3rd in their race, Ron Barlow and Tony Townsend still needing some solid backing from the other members of their team. The counters were 2nd Ron Barlow, 3rd Tony Townsend, 20th and much improved Dave White, 31st Tony Farrell, 45th Billie Anthony and 61st Don Carter.
The youths finished 2nd, their counters being: 2nd Roy Shaw (a really good run which simply shows that Roy has recovered from his septic foot), 10th Bill Farrell (this is Bill's first good run for some considerable time), 12th Ian McIvor (a good team runner), 18th Pete White, 23rd Brian Woolford, 33rd Les Williams and 34th Brian Hamilton.
The juniors finished 5th after their mainstay Roy Parry was forced to retire with a badly twisted knee. Their men were: 22nd Ken Ledward, 28th Hugh Pritchard (who claims he never does any training in the Army), 30th Colin Harris (who perhaps could show more improvement), 31st John Lynch (a good run considering he ran a lap helping Roy Parry) and 34th John Ryan.
The seniors could not unfortunately finish a team but our members ran well and enjoyed themselves. The finishers were: 45th Dave Standfast (the only senior who seems to be running well this year), 58th Jim Rimmer, 59th Alan Clarke, 61st Ram Hewson and 62nd Ray Scammell, who after improving in the L&D a fortnight ago seems to have dropped a bit.
This week there will be a club run at 3 p.m.. preparatory to the Northern Counties Championships next week. Anyone interested in joining the club should contact Mr. R.F. Hubbard, 44 Tollemache Street, Wallasey, or Mr. Woolley, 8 Bradman Road, Moreton.
