As the start of the cross-country season draws near it is pleasing to see quite a number of younger members are training, but the absence of senior members is still noticeable. This, I hope, will be remedied as the season progresses, as their experience could be of valuable assistance to the younger members.
This year we shall see a completely new boy's team led by Ken Poyning, Freddie Jamieson and ably backed by Billy Morris, Kenny Williamson and Jerry Williams and others who will make competition keen to gain a place in the team.
It is a pity to see most of our promising juniors being called up for National Service. I hope that they will be given the opportunity to train and obtain the necessary leave to represent the club at future championships. This year the club will be losing the services of Ray Woolley. Ray, who in the past has given much of his spare time as cross-country secretary, cannot unfortunately, continue. However, I am sure all club members will join with me in thanking Ray for past services.
Anyone interested in joining the club should contact R. Hubbard, 44 Tollemache Street or Mr. C. W. Gee, 78 King Street.
