Last Saturday at Longview Lane, Huyton, 58 athletes started out on the 20-mile Liverpool Pembroke road race.
Wallasey A.C. were represented by F. K. Ledward, R. Scammell, M. Devereux and J. Lynch. Three of these runners were unfortunate in having to retire after they had completed 15 miles, John Lynch, who carried on to complete the 20 mile course, finished 30th in a time of 2 hrs 8 mins. 30 secs. This being John's first attempt at a near marathon distance he ran extremely well.
The track season is now in full swing, and we remind all athletes of the three open meetings to be held in June. First the Cheshire Championships at Lingham Park. It is hoped that all Wallasey athletes will make the effort to compete, closing date for entries is 9th May.
The second meeting is the B.I.C.C. athletic sports to he held at Helsby. Closing date for entries May 26th. W.A.C. hope to be able to enter a team for the medley relay.
The third event is the Liverpool Parks and Gardens athletic championships which are to be held in three meetings on June 12th, 19th and 26th. Closing dates for entries, June 1st, 8th and 16th.
Entry forms for all events may be obtained from R. Hubbard, 44 Tollemache St., New Brighton, or Carl Gee, 73 King St., Egremont.
