With the advent of a new financial year in the lif of the Wallasey Athletic Club, the annual general meeting was once again held at the Roycroft Hall, Liscard.
Wallasey Athletic Club was unfortunate to be without the presence of its president and founder member, Mr. A. G. Nicholson to preside over the meeting due to ill health. In his absence the chair was ably taken by Mr. John Edwards.
It was decided to abandon the weightlifting section of the club.
The officials for the coming year were appointed as follows :- Hon. secretary, Mr. R. F. Hubbard; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. Prydderch; assistant secretary, Mr. Bob Fullerton; club captain, Mr. Maurice Price.
The track captain and track secretary are Mr. Ramsey Hewson and Mr. C W. Gee respectively. The ladies captain is Miss. Margaret Collings and their secretary is Miss. Jean Massey. The cross-country secretary is Mr. Colin Harris and the senior, junior, youth and boys captains are Ray Scammell, John Ryan, Ron Barlow, and Ken Poyning respectively. These together with Miss. Marie Downie, Mr. Ray Woolley, Mr. Frank Ledward and Mr. John Lynch constitute the general committee.
The official opening of the cross-country season takes place this Saturday when Wirral A.C. promote the annual Monstre meet. This is the most enjoyable meeting that Merseyside athletes have together during the cross-country season as nearly all the rest take the form of organised competitive racing and not just an easy jog of a few miles.
Anyone interested in joining the club should get in touch with Mr. R. Hubbard, 44 Tollemache Street, New Brighton or Mr. C. W. Gee, 78 King Street, Wallasey.
