A Wallasey A.C. team of cross-country runners visited the R.A.F. Camp at West Kirby last Saturday for a friendly cross-country fixture against an R.A.F. team stationed there.
The course extended for extended for 6 miles covering the district on and around Thurstaston Hill. Wallasey won the team race counting six runners with a total of 37 points against West Kirby's 41 points.
Ron Barlow and Ian McIvor, after being several hundred yards in the lead, took a wrong turning and covered a mile or so further than the rest of the field. The first two places were filled by N. Taylor and S. Hemming, both of West Kirby. The next four places were, all taken by Wallasey runners, namely Bill Farrell 3rd, Tony Farrell 4th, John Lynch 5th and John Ryan 8th. The next two places were occupied by West Kirby runners, then came Ron Barlow and lan McIvor in 9th and 10th positions respectively, Ray Scammell 14th, Harry Lutas 15th, and F. C. Hoy 17th.
This week the Northern County Cross-Country Championships are being held at the Oval Recreation Ground, Port Sunlight. This is one of few chances that Merseyside athletes have during the season of seeing some of the best cross-country runners in the North of England in action.
The travelling arrangements for the boys and youth teams are to meet at Park Station at 12-45 p.m. and take either the numbers 51, 52, 56 and 57 buses. The junior and senior teams should meet at Park Station at 1-30 p.m. and take either of the same buses.
All members who are interested in attending the jubilee dinner should return their slips to Mr. John Prydderch, 82 Broadway Avenue, Wallasey. Any old members who would like to attend the dinner would be most welcome.
