The Liverpool & District Cross-Country Championships were ran last Saturday at Port Sunlight.
Once again the youths team ran well and justified themselves to gain 3rd team place.
Ron Barlow won this race by sheer hard training and has once again proved himself one of the best youths in the country. Bennett of Wirral A.C., was a close second, and had been determined to win, Barlow managed to hold off a powerful last minute challenge and sprint home with 10 yards to spare.
Surprise of the afternoon was Tony Townsend, who finished 3rd. He has proved himself this season and has gradually crept up and gained places in the various races and has crowned it all by this good result. Dave White ran well to finish 12th, he seems to have had a little set back this season as he follows Townsend around the course like a leech. He need not be worried though as last Saturday's results show.
Phil Townsend, Tony's brother finished 18th, and was fourth counting team member Phil is running well considering he is in his first year as a youth. More style is needed though, and no doubt this will come with the years. Chalton and Noble completed the team which scored 103 points.
Competitors in the boys, juniors and seniors races were well justified by their efforts, and some improvements could be seen.
John Wright, a senior member of the club won a universities race last Saturday. He is at Loughborough College and has distinguished himself recently in various championships, Liverpool, Nottingham, Sheffield and Cambridge Universities were his competitors and by this result he should be well up in forthcoming Northern and national Championships.
This afternoon there is a club run at 3:15 p.m. from club H.Q.
