Wallasey A.C. competed in the Lever Trophy at Port Sunlight Oval last Saturday with the following individual results: - Carl Gee won the discus event with a throw of 120 ft. 1 in.; and Ray Owen was placed third with 106 ft. 7 ins.
Tony Booth was placed 2nd in the high jump with 5ft. 4 ins., and Ray Owen finished 4th in the javelin.
In the 2-mile team race Wallasey took 3rd position with John Wright 1st man home in 3rd place. His time of 9 mins. 31 secs. was a very creditable one as this was only his second race of the track season after being laid off for some months through illness. Close behind John (in 5th place) came Pete White, so close in fact that only one second separated the two runners, whilst Phil Townsend in 12th place and Dave White in 21st completed the team. Well run lads!
Today, the scratch meeting at Colwyn Bay takes place at the beautifully situated Anias Stadium. As many of Wallasey's competitors are on holiday it has been decided not to go by coach (as originally planned) and therefore members must make their own way to this meeting.
The weekly coaching sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays are being continued at Club H.Q. whilst the Wednesday fixtures at Port Sunlight Oval, are being carried on until the end of the month.
