In a recent match at Waterloo, Wallasey Athletic Club lost to Waterloo A.C. by twenty-five points to seventeen. Wallasey took first and second places in the boys' 100 yards with A. McTeer and A. Ferris, time 11.2 seconds.
A. McArthur won the youth 100, but Waterloo took second and third places to halve the points for the event. In the junior race, Dave Duncan could only register third place. Fourteen-year-old, J. Wooley ran a fine race to finish third in the youth 880 yards, time 2 minutes 21.2 seconds. Dave Duncan provided the highlight of the evening when running in the junior 880: J. Madden, (Waterloo) was eventual winner in 2 minutes 7.8 seconds with Dave 1.8 seconds behind in second place - to give four years advantage and hold his opponent to five yards was a sterling performance.
Several club members competed in the graded scratch events held at Port Sunlight on Wednesday last week. Carl Gee won the senior discus throw with a distance of 122 feet. Seven club members took part in the 880 yards races, held in three grades. Brian Chalton gained third place in the 'A' grade, in 2 minutes 5.5 seconds for his own personal best performance at this event. Dave Duncan improved on his previous week's time to win the 'B' grade race in 2 minutes 7.0 seconds, a magnificent effort for a lad just turned fifteen years. Bill Morris was second (2 mins 9.2 seconds) and Dave Noble third. K. Kal won the 'C' grade race, time 2 minutes 23.9 secs.
