With the championship season over, members of Wallasey Athletic Club are looking forward to the track season.
For the month or so till then, there is a short season of road racing and the club will be travelling to compete in various relays and team events. The first is to be run this afternoon at Preston, where Wallasey's very strong team will be led by county champion John Wright in a six by two and a half mile race.
Races follow at Blackpool, Port Sunlight and Winnington Park. We are honoured by being the only Merseyside club invited to compete in the Blackpool relay, where there will be such outstanding individuals as Gerry and Geoff North, Brian Craig, Fred Norris and Derek Ibbotson, and possibly some Continental teams.
Several club members who are still at school competed for Cheshire in last Saturday's inter-counties championships. Best performance was by John Young, who finished 28th; from 300 competitors in the senior event, Gordon Benson did well to finish 64th in the intermediate event, and Dave Bibby 77th in the junior race, in which Trevor Hocking also ran.
