Today Wallasey A. C. entertain other Liverpool & District clubs when the third and final mob run will be held from club H.Q. at Leasowe Road.
With the area championships now approaching, the distance for this last Liverpool league fixture will be the full seven miles and Wallasey hope to have a full team available in an effort to break through Pembroke's well-known packing capabilities.
Although they failed to do this in the first two mob runs, Wallasey may well be very close to-day particularly with Ron Barlow and John Wright in such fine form at present. Clearly the result depends on Wallasey's supporting runners and it is to be hoped that Brian Woolford, Pete White, Brian Chalton, and company, strike form together to provide a counting six from the upper place positions.
The race will commence at 3.00 p.m. prompt and there will also be a combined boys' and youths' race over a 3-mile course.
Young members of Wallasey A.C. had several successes in last Saturday's Wallasey Schoolboys' championships, with Alan Howard's victory in the youth race being the most convincing.
Howard moved into the lead after only half-a-mile to steadily draw away from the field and win by over a hundred yards from fellow club member Peter Meldrum.
In the Junior boys' race, David Burns finished a good second from a large field while Ken Kal led the Senior Boys race all the way to win by approximately 40 yards.
These youngsters have considerable potential and given normal improvement they are likely to have many more successes during the next few years.
Next Saturday sees the Ham Finney Trophy race from Wirral A.C. H.Q. at Prenton, when Wallasey's Brian Woolford is likely on current form to occupy one of the first three places.
