Last Saturday, Wallasey A.C. were entertained to a friendly cross-country match, over a six miles course, by Chester Training College. However, a supposedly easy victory was turned into narrow defeat, due to one or two of the Wallasey's runners not turning up.
On a fine day, over a pleasant course, Wallasey's 'strong men', Ron Barlow and Brian Woolford, in spite of not knowing the course soon had the race sewn up and were never headed. Barlow just winning the race from Woolford. Chalton, after running an excellent race finished in third position, only 25 secs. behind Woolford. Chester won the team rice by 40 pts. to 44.
Today is to be held the Waterloo Road Race one of the foremost races of its kind in the country, The race, held over 7½ mile course this year has attracted 360 entries. These include some of the best international runners in the country.
The race starts at 3:15 p.m. from Manor County School, St. Michael's Road, Crosby. All spectators can follow the whole race by car, so why not leave the T.V. for one afternoon and come and see some real sport, you'll enjoy it!
