For the past few weeks Wallasey A.C. members have been making the journey to Kirkby stadium on a Tuesday evening to compete in the National Standards meetings.
On such a good track it is not surprising that the overall standard has been high, to the benefit of all, and last weeks' results are worthy of note. In the youths' 1 mile Dave Lockley was not pushed hard enough and he won easily in 4 mins, 44.9 secs, to receive a grade 3 standard. In the same race Johnny Jones was second in 4 mins. 52.8 secs. whilst Yvonne Broomhead was third in the 100 yards in 12.3 secs.
Competing in the Junior 2,000 metres steeplechase, Barrie Smith ran a well judged race, taking the lead on the last bend to win by 20 yards and thereby gaining a 2nd grade standard with a time of 6 mins. 24.2 sees. As the grade I is only 6:20 Barrie should have no difficulty in attaining this the next time that he attempts this event.
Plans have now been finalised for the Autumn Camp at Foel Glap Farm near Denbigh and members wishing to attend, from Friday evening to Sunday evening 17th to 19th of September are requested to enter their names on the notice board as soon as possible.
