Last Saturday Wallasey A.C's athletes met at club headquarters for an easy social run. The course decided on took members over Bidston Hill and into the lanes and footpaths beyond. Somewhere near Woodchurch the athletes turned back round Bidston Hill to complete probably the easiest 9 miles they will ever run.
Today's Wallasey's athletes are off to Weaverham for the Cheshire Championships. Last year this event was held at Arrowe Park in quite good conditions. The individual winner was provided by Wirral but Wallasey were the winning team beating Wirral only by a couple of points. The results of this race decide who will represent Cheshire in the Inter-Counties match later in the season. Two years ago Wallasey A.C. and Wirral A.C. provided all but one of the ten athletes to represent Cheshire. This year's Wallasey team aren't as strong as they could be, although Barlow is running as well as ever. John Wright and Roy parry usually finish well up and both appear to have the necessary speed to be well placed.
Next week at Sherdley Park, St. Helens, the Liverpool & District Championships will be held. It is hoped that all of Wallasey A.C.'s active athletes will try to turn out for this event, there will be races for all age groups.
Athletes running in the Cheshire Championships today are asked to be prompt at 12:15 p.m. at the various meeting places assigned to them. Bearing in mind that the first race is about 2:15 p.m. and that with bad road conditions the 35-mile journey could take up to two hours, punctuality is essential. If you are unable to go please let someone know.
