From the finals of the Liverpool Parks and Gardens Championships, Wallasey Athletic Club coach Carl Gee brought home three trophies to add to his already massive collection. He was placed 1st in the discus with 109 ft. 10 ins.; second in the
javelin with 115 ft. 4 ins. and third in the high jump with 4 ft. 10½ ins.
John Morley, who qualified for the final in a previous meeting, ran third in the senior 220, when he recorded 23.8 sees. In the senior mile Barrie Smith was placed fourth in 4:33.4, and Mike Teahan finished in 4:42,8. Barrie's time, which backs up his heat time of 4:32, was particularly good considering the gusty wind which was blowing
across the track. He also did well in the senior high jump, being placed second with 4 ft. 10½ ins. The only other final in which Wallasey was represented was the senior half-mile in which Allan Keating and Doug Hanna finished in 2:07 and 2:07.1 respectively.
Here again the wind slowed the times considerably, as it did in all the track events.
Now that the Parks and Gardens Championships are over, future Tuesday evenings will be filled by the Standards meetings at Kirkby Stadium, and it is expected that many of the Wallasey athletes will be returning from there with A.A.A. badges to show for their efforts.
