Following a disappointing set of mile times the previous week last Saturday's half miles showed a complete contrast with much improved times.
A group of seven runners completed the first 440 yds. with Mike Teahan leading in a shade under 60 seconds and the slowest going through in about 64 seconds. At the 660 mark reached in 1 min. 31 secs., Mike really 'let fly' completing the last 220 in 30 dead for a promising 2 min. 1 sec. Alan Keating showed a big improvement with 2 mins. 4 secs. in second place.
Quarter-miler, Ian Wilson returned a personal best time of 2 mins. 6 secs., which will surely go in the near future.
Preston Harriers hold a relays meeting today, at which all the usual track racing distances from 100 yds. to 1 mile will be catered for. The Wallasey club's strong hand will be shown in the 4 x 440 event where Ian Wilson, although still a youth, will join with junior Alan Kin and seniors Alan Keating and Mike Teahan to produce a quartet capable of 3 mins. 36 sec. Mile.
It its also hoped to turn out a 4 x 880 team, but the composition of this foursome is still in doubt, although it is probable that a youths' team will take part with Melvin Schless, Peter Lewis and Colin Reiners teaming up with Ian Wilson.
