Wallasey Athletic Club's annual championships held last Saturday on a cold, sunny afternoon, began with the boys' race. Over a two-mile course C. Reiners romped to victory in 12:29.
Results: 1, C, Reiners 12:29; 2, R. Brimage 12:36; 3, R. Warburton 12:38; 4, P. Hughes 12:41; 5, G. Fair 13:11 6 S. Daniels 14:20.
In the youths' races over three miles D. Lockley re-affirmed his dominance in this age group after his defeat by J. Jones in the Northern Championship the previous weekend.
Results: 1, D. Lockley 14:09; 2, J. Jones 14:37; 3, B. Knox 15:43; 4, P. Wealthy 16.41; 5, I. Wilson and P. Lewis 18:31.
The senior race over 5¼ miles was a runaway victory for R. Barlow. An unfit B. Smith, usually capable of running closer to R. Barlow, finished second.
Miss Barbara Banks running in the Women's National Championships at Coventry over 3½ miles, finished 20th.
Miss Banks was the second Northern runner to finish and has been chosen to represent the North in an inter-area match - North v. South v. Midlands v. Scotland - to be held in conjuction with the Women's International Championships at Blackburn on March 23rd.
