On Saturday Wallasey A.C. took part in the Sale Harriers' Easter Road relays. Thanks to a fast time by Johnny Jones they came 4th in the senior event. The races all 3 x 1¼ miles, were for the four age groups, under 14's, under 15's, under 16's and under 18's.
In the under 15's R. Warburton was 13th at the end of lap one in time of 7 min. 12 sec. This was the position that Wallasey maintained until the end of the race.
P. Hughes completed lap two in 7 min. 44 sec. and R. Brimage lap three in 7 min. 10 sec. There were 18 teams competing in this race won comfortably by Sale.
In the under 18's Wallasey were strongly fancied for at least a place in the race of 23 teams. Sale Harriers led on lap one, and B. Knox closed in 7th for Wallasey in 6 mins. 36 sec.
Sale still led on lap two as Wallasey's position to 6th in 6 min. 33 sec. The leaders were too far ahead to be caught by Wallasey, but Sale lost their lead to Notts. A.C. and. Manchester & D.L.C., who were 1st and 2nd. Wallasey closed in 4th behind Sale (3rd) with Jones running a fast lap in 6 min. 16 sec., one of the fastest laps of the day.
This weekend Wallasey A.C. take part in the second meeting at Kirkby Stadium of the newly formed Merseyside Track and Field League. In the first meeting at Pilkington's, Wallasey men finished 2nd and the girls were 5th.
