Last Saturday's league race moved from Wallasey because of foot and mouth restrictions, saw Ron Barlow's return as the strongest of Merseyside's cross-country runners.
The race held on the snowy slopes of Woolton Park, was a seven and a half mile test of endurance right from the very fast start to the grueling uphill finish.
Ron Barlow went into the lead after two and a half of the five laps and steadily pulled away from the field leaving Leo Carroll (the winner of the previous league race) in fifth position.
Brian Renshall of Sutton, maintaining his recent consistency, ran into second place, followed closely by the much improved Dave Jeffs of Wirral A.C.
Other Wallasey placings were Barrie Smith ninth, Alan Keating 34th, Len Durkin 49th, Doug Hanna 50th, Ken Rosso 53rd, Carl Gee 63rd and Robin Tarrant 64th.
Wallasey finished fifth on the day and third overall in the league, a satisfactory performance.
John Jones, running with more confidence than of late, only just failed to beat Murphy, the H. S. Finney champion in the youths' race, with Brian Knox 3rd.
Other placings were:- Youths: Steve Walker 4th, John Horobin 6th; Boys: Paul Hughes 4th, Bob Warburton 7th, Pete Martin 9th.
Today the club holds its annual Christmas handicap race, start 2.30 prompt. Members and spectators are all welcome (competitors are asked to bring a prize).
