Wallasey Athletic Club's young athletes crowned a hard week with two Cheshire wins.
This year's full programme has resulted in the 24th Annual Youths Sports Meeting and Cheshire Schools Championships being held in the same week.
The Cheshire Schools Championships held at Hartford, saw the Wallasey athletes take titles.
Bob Brimage scored a runaway 2,000 metres steeplechase win. Forcing the pace from the start; Bob won by nearly half a lap in six minutes 39.1 seconds.
Andy Fulton unleashed a personal best shot-putt to win with his fourth putt of over 40 feet.
Not, quite making the premier place were Bob Warburton, second in the senior 800 metres; Terry Fleming second discus; and Geoff Davies, third in the long jump despite an excellent jump of 19ft. 8in.
The girls' events saw the best performance from Sylvia Brimage in the 800 metres,
Sylvia ran a sparkling championship best, winning her heat in two minutes, 30.2 seconds and almost repeated the performance in the final, where she took third place in two minutes 33 seconds.
In the same event, Lindsey Mutch ran well, taking second place in her heat and sixth in the final. Gillian King, a very versatile athlete, took fourth place in the long jump with a best of 15ft 7in.
The successful athletes will represent Cheshire in the English Schools Championships next month.
The Pilkington Recreation Ground, St. Helens, saw the venue of the Youth Sports Meeting; held as an .inter town competition in which Wallasey came a close second to Warrington.
The outstanding evening's work came from Bob Warburton who took the 800 metres in one minute 59.9 seconds and followed this up with a personal best 400 metres taking second place in 54.6 seconds.
Bob was well supported by Phil Wade, also running a best 400 metres in 55.0 seconds, and Dave Lockley in the 800 metres, taking second in two-minutes three seconds, but coming into his own winning the 1,500 metres in four minutes seven
seconds.
The premier field event performance was in the discus were Terry Fleming and Terry leach threw 162ft. 3in. and 126ft. 1in. to take first and second, Terry Fleming also winning the shot with a putt of 40ft. 8½in.
Today, St. Helens is the venue of the Senior Northern Mens A.A.A. Championships, in which six Wallasey athletes will be competing.
