Wallasey Athletic Club took part in two national championships on Saturday, with the ladies section competing at Blackburn and the men at Blackpool.
At Blackburn, Barbara Banks, now recovered from injury, finished fourth in the Senior ladies' race over a very fast course and as a result has been included in the team of six to represent England in the International Championship on the 21st March.
It will be run in Maryland, U.S.A., and Barbara will have the cream of cross-country runners from both sides of the Atlantic to contend with. Her teammates at Blackburn were Sheana O'Dell, 37th and Margaret Ashcroft at 39th. Suzanne Kew completed the quartet at 11th.
The intermediate team, in a field of 237 starters, finished 15th, with Sylvia Brimage as the first counter at 48th and Gillian King running well to finish 91st. Susan Carter and Lindsay Mutch were in support at 102nd and 104th respectively, whilst Gillian Ackers led the junior girls' team home with 73rd place, and with Susan Lloyd 15 places behind.
