A group of four enthusiastic athletes managed to find an inter-club meeting at St. Helens last Saturday to fill a blank week in the fixture list, and pleasant weather and a good track made the trip worthwhile.
Pete Lewis was the only winner in the 400 metres in a time of 50.6 secs. Earlier in the week Peter competed in the British Milers Club 800 metres championships at Crystal Palace and finished a creditable seventh in 1 min. 53.1 secs.
At St. Helens the other three athletes all contested the 1500 metres, Doug Hanna getting the better of Bob Brimage and Mike Teahan finishing in third place with Bob fourth and Mike fifth.
However, Bob, who recently finished ninth in the national junior 2,000 metres steeplechase had already had a hard run in the 800 metres, where he finished fifth in 2 mins. 2 secs.
Today, Bob joins Pete Lewis and Alan Cheers in the Cheshire team for an inter-county meeting at Leicester.
On Monday the club championships are being held at Lingham Park track, commencing at 11 a.m., and any help with officiating will be much appreciated.
