A small group of young Wallasey Athletic Club runners were brave enough to tackle the Frodsham Hill races. The tough course takes the runners up over 300ft, a true test of fitness and endurance.
Gwyn Griffiths ran well in the youths' race to finish in the top half of the field in 26 mins. 43 secs., after nearly four miles. Unfortunately no other Wallasey athletes were running to support Gwyn in the event.
In the Colts' team race the Wallasey team finished 23rd, amassing 245 points, their three runners being Eddie Kanes, Dave Jones and Steve Kelly, a useful team who could develop quickly into a real force with hard training.
In the boys' race, a team all fairly new to club running managed to finish 21st, the counters being Dave Shipley, Chris Preston and Brian Kanes.
Today there is no competition but potential cross-country runners are welcome at the club-house, Leasowe Road playing-field, behind St. George's Secondary School. Tomorrow a large contingent will be travelling to Denbigh for a three-mile handicap run. Please meet at St. Albans Road by 10.30 p.m. and bring sandwiches.
