Wallasey Athletic Club ladies section competed at Warrington last Sunday, finishing fourth in the second meeting of the Cheshire Women's League.
First event on a badly waterlogged track was the 100 metre hurdles, which was won by Kathy Davenport for Wallasey.
Kathy then proceeded to a hat trick in winning the senior high jump with a clearance of 4ft. 10in. and the long jump with 15ft. 9in. Kathy McGrath was 4th in the long jump with 11ft. 11in.
Barbara Banks produced a spirited sprint in the home straight to win the senior 800 metres; from Wirral A.C.'s Jane Perry and Jill Knox in 2 mins. 20.5 secs. ably supported by Margaret Ashcroft at 4th in 2 mins. 30 secs. They later returned 1st and 3rd places respectively, in the 1,500 metres.
Julie Halfpenny finished 4th in the intermediate 400 metres with a time of 67 sec. and Helen Taylor won her 100 metres junior race without difficulty. Junior Lyn Carter gained a creditable 5th place in her 1500 metre race.
Margaret Caldwell gained 4th places in the 100m 200m and shot and Lindsay Hewson also finished 4th in the junior 100m. New member, Susan Hollett, won the junior long jump in her debut for the club with a leap of 14ft. 6in.
In the men's section very encouraging reports have been received of Bob Warburton at Oxford University.
