Sylvia Brimage kept up her fine record for the weekend in the Rossendale Shield Race. The club's women's team finished third after a close competition in which Stoke A.C. won with 45 points, Stretford A.C. were runners-up with 51 points Wallasey got 54.
The Wallasey team were well pleased with their performance in the absence from the team on this occasion of Janice Watts running for the J. M. March College and Mary Caldwell studying in London. Barbara Banks led the team home finishing in fourth position a slightly disappointing position compared with her normal high standards of performance, Janice stayed close to Barbara for much of the way eventually finishing 5th and leading her college team home.
Margaret Ashcroft was next home for Wallasey in 11th place only just ahead of the ever improving Sylvia Brimage, who although she could not make the Northern Championship team is now recovering well from setbacks and producing invaluable performances for the team. Audrey McKay was Wallasey's fourth runner in 27th place, doing well in her first season of cross-country running. Of the intermediates Susan Lloyd ran very well to finish 13th. She can now look forward to progressing to the senior team where she will be a tremendous asset. Janet Trevitt and Julie Halfpenny found the course which was very hilly a little tough finishing in the middle of the field.
