Wallasey Athletic Club came fifth in the West Lancashire Cross-Country Championships at St. Helens on Sunday, Dave Lindsay and Dave Lockley had outstanding runs over the tough nine mile course.
Gwyn Griffiths failed to overcome a foot injury, but managed to come 18th in the youth's section, Steve Kelly tried hard in the boys section but did not get a place. Tomorrow the club is hoping the women's team will be able to bring home the Northern Cross-Country Championships for the first time, captain Janice Watts is now back to her best form and with Barbara Banks and Margaret Ashcroft fresh from their recent success, the team should be very well placed. Lynn Carter is one of the favourites for the minors race after her fine inter-counties run when she finished eighth, one of the highest individual placings ever for a young Wallasey athlete.
