Athletes from across the region produced some excellent runs in the fourth race in the Borders League series.
The event, which was just under 10k, was won by Ellesmere Port A.C.'s Steve Crowe in 31.35. Wirral's team was led home by Mark Hulmston who was fifth in 32.40. He was closely followed by Xavier Desse in sixth in 32.43, Leon Foster was eighth in 32.50 and Alan Woods was 11th in 33.21. Although the team finished third, they maintain second spot overall in Division One.
Wallasey A.C. are currently sixth and occupy one of the two relegation spots.The leading athletes for the club were Tony Barbat who finished 32nd in 34.55, Joe Johnson was 40th in 35.28 and Steve Wilkinson was 44th in 35.44. In the women's race there was an excellent run from Wirral's Helen Lawrence who was 14th in 33.35 to help lead Wirral to first place in the team standings in Division One. Wallasey's ladies were led home by Anne Taylor- Kilbane who finished second to move her team into third in Division Two.
This Sunday is the Liverpool & District Cross-Country Championships at Clarke Gardens, Allerton (11am). Liverpool Harriers, who have dominated the series this season, will be the team to beat but Wirral, St Helens Sutton, Southport Waterloo and West Cheshire should provide stiff competition. Individual honours should be between Phil McGlory, Rob Berry and Jonny Mellor.
