Liverpool Pembroke Sefton star Phil Taylor has been called up into the Great Britain squad for this weekend's European Indoor Championships. The runner will represent Britain in the 4x400m in Birmingham. He is joined in the men's team by JMU student Martyn Bernard, who will compete in the high jump.
Meanwhile, St. Helens Sutton's David Forrester has been listed among the reserves for the GB team to compete at the Junior World Cross-Country Championships in Mombassa in March. He gave a particularly strong performance in Nottingham at the weekend, finishing seventh against many competitors who were up to two years older than him, and helped to lead Merseyside's Craig Gunderson, Adam Peers and Daniel Griffiths into the bronze medal position.
Meanwhile athletes from Wallasey Athletics Club have flown to Barcelona to support one of their elite runners in his marathon debut in this city. Tony Barbat, who has recently returned to competition running following injury, has been giving some impressive performances in both the cross-country and Borders League road series. He has been training hard during the last few months with the support of fellow athletes and hopes to make it a personal best for his marathon running in Barcelona on Sunday.
The fifth race in the Borders League series takes place in Buckley on March 18. This is being hosted by Buckley Running Club.
