Gill Laithwaite led the St. Helens Sutton women's team to victory in the Trafford 10k at the weekend.
Laithwaite won the women's race at a canter in 35:40, while other good performances coming from Gemma Connolly (seventh, 38:31) and Julia Eccleston (14th, 43:00) earned Saints a three-point win over Sale Harriers. Ellesmere Port's Nicola Bird enjoyed a good run, finishing in 37:53 and Southport Waterloo's Ann Eggington was the first Vet 40 home in 40:02.
Ellesmere Port's Steven Crowe was the first Merseyside man home (11th, 33:31); Wirral's Xavier Desse was 14th in 33:46 and Liverpool Harriers' Ray Cole was 16th overall and the first Vet 45 home in 33:54.
Wallasey Athletic Club's Tony Barbat achieved a personal best of 3:19 in the Barcelona Marathon at the weekend. He said: 'The heat is something which you just cannot prepare for.'
