What is believed to be one of the biggest athletic gatherings seen in Wallasey will take place at Leasowe Road to-day (Saturday), when Wallasey Athletic Club is organising the Liverpool & District Cross-Country Union's opening run the Monstre Meet.
All the well-known Merseyside clubs will be attending with some top-class distance runners on view.
Two packs, seniors and novices will run over seven and five miles respectively of road, shore and country, lining up for a mile break or race at the finish which will be run on Leasowe Road. A record attendance is anticipated and close on 200 runners are expected to face the starter. Wallasey athletes are asked to turn out in full force in their colours, and John Edwards, Wallasey A.C.'s captain and last Liverpool & District Senior Country, Champion, will be chief marshal.
Wallasey Athletic Club are indebted to the 1st Wallasey Scout Troop and their scout master, Mr. Almond, without whose assistance the meeting would not have possible.
