Wallasey A.C. sustained an unexpected reverse last Saturday at Preston when the 'A' team could not finish better than 4th place out of 15 in the annual West Lancashire Novice Team Championship.
Of the 13 out of 14 runners constituting the two Wallasey teams only one man reproduced his true form, H. Thompson, who finished 2nd in the recent Wallasey Novice Championship. Thompson ran steadily over the five miles course last Saturday to gain 9th place. Of the remaining Wallasey runners, A. Simpson gave one of his best championship performances and J. Hawkesley ran with delightful ease and much improved form.
The nice was won by Liverpool Harriers, who placed their team four in the first six places, including the first man home in K. Marsden, a superb team success Wallasey runners seemed to lack the fight which denotes athletic fitness but another month of rigorous training will rectify this unfortunate position.
This Saturday a number of Wallasey senior runners are going to Northwich to compete in the Cheshire County Trial over 7½ miles to determine the Cheshire team for the Inter-Counties Cross-County Championship on January 13th and the rest of Wallasey A.C. run versus Dunlop Sports Club at Speke.
