A keen side representing R.A.F. West Kirby ran against Wallasey Athletic Club over a 7½ mile course from Leasowe Road last Saturday.
Wallasey winning with a score of 14 points to R.A.F.'s 27, four counting for each team. J. Edwards, Wallasey captain, led from the start to finish first with Corporal Carlyle of the R.A.F. in close pursuit. Both H. Thompson and D. Dickinson of the home club were with the leaders at different stages, the latter just failing to beat Corporal Carlyle for second place in a strong finish. J. Hyman, R.A.F., was fifth and W. R. Bee, running easily, completed the Wallasey team four with sixth position. E. C. Foster was seventh and A. Simpson, running another good race, finished 8th. E. J. Bollard of Wallasey A.C. ran his best cross-country race so far to gain 15th place with another promising newcomer, A. Prowse directly behind him.
This Saturday the West Lancashire Championships are being decided at St. Helens. Wallasey A.C. run the same teams as in the Liverpool & District Championships a fortnight ago, the only difference being in the senior where R. Young is available. Team captains remain the same, viz.: J. Edwards (senior), A. Simpson (Junior) and R. Johnston (Youths), National Cross-Country Champions, Sutton Harriers, will be in action in all three categories and on their home course, so some high class running can be anticipated.
